Författaren Jokha Alharthi från Oman får Bookerpriset
Den omanska författaren Jokha Alharthi vinner Bookerpriset och blir därmed den första författaren som skriver på arabiska att tilldelas det prestigefulla litteraturpriset.
Priset delas ut för årets bästa översatta roman och romanen som belönas är ”Celestial bodies”, översatt av amerikanskan Marilyn Booth.
Boken utspelar sig i den omanska byn al-Awafi och handlar om tre systrar, en som gifter in sig i en rik familj, en som gifter sig på grund av pliktkänslor och en som väntar på en man som har emigrerat.
Juryns ordförande Bettany Hughes säger till The Guardian att Alharthi i sin roman undviker stereotyper som ibland kopplas till kön, etnicitet och slaveri.

The Booker Prize for Fiction (formerly known as the Booker–McConnell Prize and the Man Booker Prize) is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel written in the English language and published in the United Kingdom.
