Biden vill att journalister fängslade utomlands släpps
Under Vita husets korrespondensmiddag uppmanade president Joe Biden till frisläppandet av amerikanska journalister och medborgare som frihetsberövats utomlands, rapporterar amerikanska medier.
– Den fria pressen är en pelare, kanske pelaren, till ett fritt samhälle. Inte fienden.
Han nämnde Wall Street Journal-reportern Evan Gershkovich som nyligen greps i Ryssland och frilansjournalisten Austin Tice som kidnappades i Syrien 2012.
Till middagen, en årlig tradition, bjuder presidenten in journalister och andra särskilda gäster. I år deltog bland andra basketstjärnan Brittney Griner, som satt gripen i Ryssland under nästan hela 2022.
