Bulgarisk författare får Bookerpris

Georgi Gospodinov (Bulgarian: Георги Господинов; born January 7, 1968) is a Bulgarian writer, poet and playwright. He is one of the most translated and internationally awarded Bulgarian writers and one of the leading voices of contemporary European literature. His complex narratives are engaged with the memory of the recent Eastern-European past and the present anxieties of Europe and the world. Deeply human, they manage at the same time to reach beyond humanity striving for a much wider, non-anthropocentric empathy. Smuggling poetry into fiction, his style is both poetic and philosophical yet readable, funny, self-ironic. According to The New Yorker, “Georgi’s real quest in The Physics of Sorrow is to find a way to live with sadness, to allow it to be a source of empathy and salutary hesitation…” His works have been translated into 25 languages, making him one of the most translated Bulgarian writers.For his novel Time Shelter, Gospodinov has been awarded the 2023 International Booker Prize, shared with translator Angela Rodel, as well as the Strega European Prize. Moreover, for The Physics of Sorrow, he has recieved the Jan Michalski Prize and the Angelus Award.
