Carole Baskin: Fått hot – rädd att lämna mitt hem
Carole Baskin som skildras i Netflix succédokumentär ”Tiger king” har gett sin första intervju sedan serien hade premiär. Baskin säger till Tampa Bay Times att hon mordhotats och att hon är rädd för att lämna sitt hem. Uppemot 30 personer samlas varje dag utanför hennes djurskyddsområde ”Big Cat rescue” och drönare cirkulerar ovanför ägorna.
Djurrättsaktivisten och hennes make Howard säger att de känner sig förrådda av skaparna av dokumentärserien för att de skildrar vad djuruppfödaren Joe Exotic går igenom och för att fokus inte ligger på deras kamp för kattdjuren.
– Det finns nästan inte ord för att beskriva känslan av hur intensivt jag känner mig förrådd, säger Howard Baskin till Tampa Bay Times.

Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage (né Schreibvogel; born March 5, 1963), better known as Joe Exotic, is an American former zoo operator and convicted felon. The former owner and operator of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, Maldonado-Passage had claimed to be the most prolific breeder of tigers in the United States. He twice unsuccessfully ran for public office, first for President of the United States in 2016 as an independent, and then for Governor of Oklahoma in 2018 as a Libertarian.
In 2019, Maldonado-Passage was convicted on 17 federal charges of animal abuse (eight violations of the Lacey Act and nine of the Endangered Species Act) and two counts of murder for hire, for a plot to kill Big Cat Rescue CEO Carole Baskin. He is serving a 22-year sentence in federal prison. In 2020, Netflix released a seven-part documentary, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, focused on Maldonado-Passage, his zoo, and his feud with Baskin.

Carole Baskin (née Stairs Jones; born June 6, 1961) is an American animal rights activist and owner of Big Cat Rescue, a non-profit animal sanctuary based near Tampa, Florida. She drew public attention for her role in the 2020 Netflix documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness about private zoo operator Joe Exotic. The Netflix series follows both Baskin and Exotic, filming their ongoing and escalating feuds over exotic animals in private zoos. Following the series' release, Baskin has been targeted by Internet memes related to the disappearance of Don Lewis, her second husband.
