Den första gulfstaten med relationer till Israel
Den 15 september 2020 blev Förenade Arabemiraten den första gulfstaten att upprätta formella diplomatiska relationer med Israel, och det tredje arablandet att göra det efter Egypten och Jordanien, skriver Times of Israel.
Samma dag följde Bahrain i deras fotspår, och senare även Sudan och Marocko. De diplomatiska förhandlingar som ledde fram till det så kallade Abrahamavtalet mellan Israel, Arabemiraten och Bahrain leddes av USA.
Sedan avtalet har länderna öppnat ambassader och tecknat ett flertal lukrativa handelsavtal. Även turismen har blomstrat. För Arabemiraten har den nya vänskapen också öppnat nya vägar till handel med Israels nära allierade USA – efter avtalet köpte landet amerikanska stridsflygplan för 23 miljarder dollar.

Israel–United Arab Emirates relations had been cool for several decades, but in the 2010s, the countries' informal relations improved considerably and they began engaging in extensive unofficial cooperation based on their joint opposition to Iran's nuclear program and regional influence. In 2015, Israel opened an official diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi to the International Renewable Energy Agency.In a significant warming of official Israeli-UAE relations, Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) formally agreed in August 2020 to "normalise" relations in a United States-brokered deal that also requires Israel to halt its plan to annex parts of the West Bank, including the Jordan Valley. A joint statement issued by the UAE, Israel and the United States said that the three countries had "agreed to the full normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates". The signing ceremony was held on 15 September 2020.Turkey and Iran both criticised the agreement. On 16 August 2020, the UAE for the first time established telephone links to Israel by unblocking direct dialling to Israel's +972 country code. The first direct commercial flight from Israel to the UAE was an El Al flight on 31 August 2020.On 24 January 2021, the official Israeli embassy in the UAE was opened with Eitan Na’eh serving as an acting ambassador/Chargé d'affaires. Mohamed Al Khaja was selected to be the first UAE ambassador to IsraelOn 30 May 2021, the embassy of the United Arab Emirates officially opened in Tel Aviv, with Mohamed Al Khaja serving as ambassador.

The Abraham Accords are a joint statement between the State of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, reached on August 13, 2020. Subsequently, the term was used to refer collectively to agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (the Israel–United Arab Emirates normalization agreement) and Bahrain (the Bahrain–Israel normalization agreement).The statement marked the first public normalization of relations between an Arab country and Israel since that of Jordan in 1994. The original Abraham Accords were signed by the Emirati foreign minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Bahraini foreign minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and U.S. president Donald Trump on September 15, 2020, at the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. The accords were negotiated by Jared Kushner and Avi Berkowitz.The agreement with the UAE was officially titled the Abraham Accords Peace Agreement: Treaty of Peace, Diplomatic Relations and Full Normalization Between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel. The agreement between Bahrain and Israel was officially titled the Abraham Accords: Declaration of Peace, Cooperation, and Constructive Diplomatic and Friendly Relations, and was announced by the United States on September 11, 2020.The accords are named after Abraham to emphasize the shared origin of belief between Judaism and Islam, both of which are Abrahamic religions that strictly espouse the monotheistic worship of the God of Abraham.
