Ex-astronaut vill ha McCains skrivbord i senaten
Tidigare Nasa-astronauten och stridsflygaren Mark Kelly gör sig redo för att ta plats i senaten efter att ha vunnit i delstaten Arizona. Demokraten hoppas på att kunna ta plats vid bortgångne John McCains skrivbord, säger Kelly till Arizona Republic.
– Han var min hjälte när jag var liten och det är inte ofta vi får möta våra hjältar, säger han.
Hans republikanska motståndare Martha McSally, även hon tidigare stridspilot, ringde och gratulerade i fredags, nio dagar efter att AP utropat Kelly till segrare.

Mark Edward Kelly (born February 21, 1964) is an American politician, astronaut, engineer, and retired U.S. Navy captain who is a senator-elect for Arizona. An aerospace executive and consultant, Kelly is the author of multiple books.A naval aviator, Kelly flew combat missions during the Gulf War before being selected as a NASA Space Shuttle pilot in 1996. He flew his first space mission in 2001 as pilot of STS-108, piloted STS-121 in 2006, and commanded STS-124 in 2008 and STS-134 in 2011, the final mission of Space Shuttle Endeavour. Mark's identical twin Scott Kelly is also a retired astronaut; they are the only siblings to have both traveled in space.Kelly's wife, then-Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, was shot and nearly killed in an assassination attempt on January 8, 2011. Six people died in the attack. After the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting the next year, Giffords and Kelly founded the nonprofit Americans for Responsible Solutions, campaigning for universal background checks and red flag laws before Kelly decided to pursue elected office.
