Gustafsson blir Tootsie: ”Känns ändå fräscht”

Robert Gustafsson tar sig an titelrollen i musikalen Tootsie som i höst sätts upp på Oscarsteatern i Stockholm. Det rapporterar TT.

Efter att tidigare ha spelat ”Rain Man” blir detta andra gången i rad han gör en av Dustin Hoffmans paradroller på scen. Den ursprungliga filmversionen gjordes 1982 och kretsar kring en arbetslös manlig skådespelare som börjar spela kvinna för att öka möjligheterna att bli anställningsbar.

Gustafsson säger att han först var tveksam till filmens tema men att humorn är ”väldigt modern och uppdaterad” och att ”det känns ändå fräscht”.

– Tootsie handlar främst om ett stort svek. Michael hade lika gärna kunnat byta nationalitet, eller klä ut sig till något annat än en kvinna, säger han.

Tootsie is a 1982 American romantic comedy film directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Dustin Hoffman. Its supporting cast includes Pollack, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Bill Murray, Charles Durning, George Gaynes, Geena Davis (in her debut) and Doris Belack. The film tells the story of a talented but volatile actor whose reputation for being difficult drives him to adopt a new identity as a woman to land a job. The film was adapted by Larry Gelbart, Barry Levinson, Elaine May and Murray Schisgal from a story by Gelbart and Don McGuire. Tootsie was a major critical and financial success, the second most profitable film of 1982, and was nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture. Lange was the only winner, for Best Supporting Actress. In 1998, the Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Its theme song, "It Might Be You", performed by Stephen Bishop, was a Top 40 hit in the United States.

Tootsie is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and a book by Robert Horn. The musical is based on the 1982 American comedy film of the same name written by Larry Gelbart, Barry Levinson (uncredited), Elaine May (uncredited) and Murray Schisgal from the story by Gelbart and Don McGuire. The musical made its world premiere try-out at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago in September 2018. Like the film, the musical tells the story of a talented but volatile actor whose reputation for being difficult forces him to adopt a new identity as a woman in order to land a job. The original movie revolved around a daytime soap opera, while the show involves a Broadway musical.
