On January 24, 2023, Lindsay Clancy strangled her three children—five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan—at the family's home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, United States. Prosecutors maintained that she was in control at the time of the killings and that her actions beforehand, including sending her husband on an errand, showed methodical planning. They emphasized that she reported hearing the voice only once, on the day of the killings, and that none of her providers had previously documented signs of psychosis. Lindsay's criminal trial began July 20, 2026. Following nearly six weeks of trial proceedings, jury deliberations started on August 27, 2026. On both the fourth and fifth day of deliberations, the jury informed the court that it could not reach a unanimous verdict. Judge William Sullivan asked that they continue deliberating. On September 3, Sullivan denied a motion by the defense to remove a holdout juror. The case drew national attention and prompted wider discussion of postpartum mental illnesses. Both Lindsay and her former husband, Patrick Clancy, filed lawsuits against her former healthcare providers, alleging that medical malpractice and negligence had contributed to the deaths of their children.
