Tchads ex-president vill se förhandling med rebeller
Tchads tidigare president Goukouni Weddeye uppmanar militärjuntan att bjuda in rebeller för en dialog i syfte att ”rädda landet”, rapporterar AFP.
– Vi kan inte betrakta dem som kriminella fiender och avvisa dem, säger han och föreslår rundabordssamtal.
Rebellerna Fact inledde en offensiv i april och hotade att inta Tchads huvudstad N'Djamena, innan de stoppades av armén. Övergångspresidenten Mahamat Deby har tidigare sagt att han ska ”utrota” rebellerna och vägrar att förhandla.
Militärjuntan tog makten efter att den tidigare presidenten Idriss Deby, Mahamat Debys pappa, i april dödats av rebeller vid fronten.

In May 2013, security forces in Chad foiled a coup against the President Idriss Deby that had been in preparation for several months. In April 2021, President Déby was injured by the rebel group Front Pour l'Alternance et La Concorde au Tchad (FACT). He succumbed to his injuries on April 20, 2021. This resulted in both the National Assembly and Chadian Government being dissolved and replaced with a Transitional Military Council.
