Abiy Ahmed Ali (Ge'ez: ዐቢይ አህመድ አሊ, Oromo: Abiyyii Ahimad Alii, often shortened to Abiy Ahmed or just Abiy; born 15 August 1976) is an Ethiopian politician serving since 2 April 2018 as the fourth and current prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He remains chairman of both the ruling EPRDF (Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front) and the ODP (Oromo Democratic Party) (which is one of the four coalition parties of the EPRDF). Abiy is also an elected member of the Ethiopian parliament, and a member of the ODP and EPRDF executive committees. A former army intelligence officer, Abiy, since becoming prime minister, has launched a wide programme of political and economic reforms, not all of which have met with favour by supporters of the federalism-based constitution/system of Ethiopia and in Tigray (in which Abiy's shake-up of the Ethiopian state that has targeted Tigrayans is seen as selective). He is awarded Nobel Peace Prize 2019. Ahmed was awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.

Alfred Nobels testamente säger att priset skall tilldelas dem som "hafva gjort menskligheten den största nytta" och att en femtedel tilldelas "den som har verkat mest eller best för folkens förbrödrande och afskaffande eller minskning af stående arméer samt bildande och spridande af fredskongresser". Dessutom gällde dessa förutsättningar vad som gjorts under det gångna året. Detta frångicks dock av praktiska skäl av Nobelkommittén redan från början.

Dawit Isaak (born 28 October 1964) is a Swedish-Eritrean playwright, journalist and writer, who has been held in prison in Eritrea since 2001 without trial and is considered a traitor by the Eritrean government. Amnesty International considers him a prisoner of conscience and has called for his immediate and unconditional release. For years, he was the only Swedish citizen held as a prisoner of conscience (he is now joined by the Swedish citizen and publicist Gui Minhai).
