Två män döms för planer på att kidnappa guvernör
En federal jury i den amerikanska delstaten Michigan har funnit två män skyldiga till att ha planerat att kidnappa guvernören Gretchen Whitmer från hennes semesterbostad 2020, rapporterar New York Times.
Rättsprocessen har varit en av de mest högprofilerade rörande inhemsk terrorism i USA, och ger upprättelse till de åklagare som tog fallet till domstol en andra gång efter att den första juryn friat männen, skriver tidningen.
– Du kan inte bara hänga på dig en skyddsväst och ett AR-15-gevär och släpa i väg guvernören, sa den federala åklagaren Nils Kessler under slutpläderingarna.
Männen, Barry Croft och Adam Fox, har ännu inte fått sina straff fastställda.

On October 8, 2020, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced the arrests of 13 men suspected of orchestrating a domestic terror plot to kidnap American politician Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan, and otherwise using violence to overthrow the state government. Half of the suspects were tied to a paramilitary militia group that called themselves the Wolverine Watchmen. Six of the suspects were charged in federal court, while the other seven were charged with state crimes. A week later, a fourteenth suspect was arrested and charged in state court.One man has pleaded guilty and offered to testify on behalf of the prosecution as part of a favorable plea deal, while two have been acquitted. Two additional suspects' trials ended in a hung jury, and a retrial of them is currently underway.
