Unga väljare räddade Biden från den röda vågen
USA:s president Joe Biden och Demokraterna har ungdomarna att tacka för att det inte blev någon röd våg i det amerikanska mellanårsvalet. Det rapporterar The Telegraph.
En åttondel av alla som röstade i mellanårsvalet tillhörde åldersgruppen 18–29, och av dem röstade omkring 63 procent på Demokraterna och 35 procent på Republikanerna, skriver Independent.
I den viktiga delstaten Pennsylvania, röstade 72 procent av alla väljare i åldrarna 18–24 på Demokraternas kandidat John Fetterman, vilket hjälpte honom besegra republikanen Mehmet Oz. Demokraterna har även sett en ökning i stödet från unga i de avgörande delstaterna Arizona, Nevada och Georgia, där rösträkningen ännu inte är klar.
I Georgia sökte sig rekordmånga unga till vallokalerna, och totalt röstade över 200 000 i åldrarna 18–29 år. Det är mer än dubbelt så många som 2018, då siffran var 87 000, skriver lokala nyhetskanalen WRDW.

Republican narrative
Given the current inflation and violent crime crisis, Republicans should have done better, but that doesn't mean there weren't bright spots. One of these was the landslide reelection of Ron DeSantis and Florida's showcasing of how to run a smooth election. Whether they end up with a majority in either chamber or not, the GOP now has two years to take notes and figure out their 2024 game plan.

What DeSantis's win shows is that many Republicans throughout the country are still trying — and failing — to run their campaigns like Donald Trump. Election deniers like Doug Mastriano took huge defeats and up-and-coming progressives like John Fetterman had big wins, showing voters care far more about protecting democracy than the MAGA crowd thought.

- In heavily contested Ohio, Republican JD Vance is projected to have beaten Tim Ryan, with Wisconsin Republican Ron Johnson also projected to have won his race. Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis has beaten Charlie Crist in Florida's governor race. Senate races in Georgia and Nevada are still a toss-up, with Georgia's incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker heading to a runoff. [5]
