Unik hebreisk bibel till salu – kan slå prisrekord
Codex Sassoon – den tidigaste, mest kompletta hebreiska bibel som upptäckts – kommer i maj att auktioneras ut på Sotheby’s i New York, rapporterar Washington Post.
Enligt auktionshuset väntas boken, som bara saknar några sidor, gå under klubban för motsvarande runt 300 till 500 miljoner kronor. Det skulle göra den till ”det mest värdefulla historiska dokumentet som någonsin sålts på auktion”.
Boken är döpt efter den brittiska samlaren David Solomon Sassoon, och tros härstamma från sent 800-tal till tidigt 900-tal. Det är ett av bara två kvarvarande exemplar av till största delen kompletta biblar från den tidsåldern.

The Damascus Pentateuch (Hebrew: כֶּתֶר דַּמֶּשֶׂק Keter Dameseq or Crown of Damascus or Codex Sassoon) is a 10th-century Hebrew Bible codex, consisting of the almost complete Pentateuch, the Five Books of Moses. The codex was copied by an unknown scribe, replete with Masoretic annotations. The beginning of the manuscript is damaged: it starts with Genesis 9:26, and Exodus 18:1–23 is also missing. In 1975 it was acquired by the Jewish National and University Library, Jerusalem (from 2008 "National Library of Israel"). The codex was published in a large, two-volume facsimile edition in 1978.It is distinct from the 13th-century Damascus Crown (Damascus Keter) of Spanish origin, a manuscript containing 24 canonical books.
It was owned by Jacqui Safra in 2023, and to be sold at auction on 16 May 2023, with a guide price of US$30–50m.
