Perus president föreslår tidigare val efter våldet
Perus nytillträdda president Dina Boluarte kommer att skicka förslag till kongressen om att tidigarelägga valet, säger hon i ett tv-sänt tal enligt AP.
Det sker efter att tusentals demonstranter under helgen gått ut på gatorna och krävt att hon avgår och utlyser nyval. Minst två personer har dött under protesterna, enligt myndigheter.
Boluarte uppger att hon kommer föreslå att val hålls i april 2024, efter att tidigare ha sagt att hon kommer sitta kvar de återstående 3,5 åren av hennes föregångare Pedro Castillos mandatperiod.
”Min plikt som republikens president är att tolka, läsa och insamla [...] den peruanska majoritetens åsikter”, säger hon.

Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈdina erˈsilja βoˈlwarte seˈɣařa] (listen); born 31 May 1962) is a Peruvian politician and lawyer currently serving as the 64th president of Peru since 7 December 2022. She had served as the first vice president and minister at Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion under President Pedro Castillo. Before then, she served as a senior director of the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC) from 2007 until 2022.Boluarte is the first woman to become President of Peru. She was sworn in following a failed self-coup d'état by President Pedro Castillo which resulted in his impeachment, ousting, and arrest. Boluarte's presidency is the second instance in Peruvian history where the first vice president succeeded a president who could no longer serve, after First Vice President Martín Vizcarra became president upon the resignation of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in 2018.
