Tata Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded in 1868 by Jamshedji Tata and gained international recognition after purchasing several global companies. It is India's largest conglomerate. In 2015-16, the revenue of Tata companies, taken together, is $103.51 billion. These companies collectively employ over 660,000 people. Each Tata company or enterprise operates independently under the guidance and supervision of its own board of directors and shareholders. There are 30 publicly-listed Tata enterprises with a combined market capitalisation of about $116 billion as of March 2016). Tata companies with significant scale include Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Teleservices, Titan, Tata Communications and Taj Group.

Cyrus Pallonji Mistry (born 4 July 1968) is a Irish-Indian businessman who was chairman of Tata Group, an Indian business conglomerate, between 2012 and 2016. He was the sixth chairman of the group and the second not to be named Tata, after Nowroji Saklatwala. The Economist has described him as "the most important industrialist" in India, Britain & Ireland. He served as the Chairman of Tata Sons till 24 October 2016. He is the youngest son of Indian billionaire construction magnate Pallonji Mistry. On 24 October, 2016, the Tata Sons Board voted to remove Mistry as chairman. Former chairman Ratan Tata becomes interim chairman, and a new chairman is to be chosen by February 2017.
