Borgmästaren: Lissabon i sorg efter en tragisk dag
Lissabons borgmästare Carlos Moedas säger till portugisiska medier att staden är i sorg efter att minst 15 personer dött i en bergbaneolycka i staden.
– Det är en tragisk dag, säger han.
Vad som har orsakat olyckan är ännu inte klarlagt. Moedas lovar att det ska utredas och presenteras när tiden för det är inne.
– Men just nu, av respekt för de drabbades familjer, kan jag inte kommentera det.
Olyckan inträffade vid 19-tiden och tre timmar senare pågick ännu en massiv insats på platsen. Bergbanan i fråga är väldigt populär bland turister, och enligt myndigheterna finns det utländska turister bland offren. Det framkommer inte vilka nationaliteter turisterna har.

The Glória Funicular (Portuguese: Ascensor da Glória), sometimes known as the Elevador da Glória (Glória Lift), is a funicular railway line in the civil parish of Santo António, in the municipality of Lisbon, Portugal. It connects the Pombaline downtown (at the Restauradores Square) with the Bairro Alto (Garden/ Overlook of São Pedro de Alcântara), operated by Carris.
The line conforms to the funicular principle, with two cars permanently attached to opposite ends of a haulage cable, which is looped over a pulley at the upper end of the track. Unusually, traction is provided by electric motors on the two cars, which are themselves powered through an overhead wire. The cable links the two cars together so that they ascend and descend simultaneously, each car acting as a counterweight for the other one.
