Biden nominerar tidigare general till försvarsminister
USA:s blivande president Joe Biden kommer att nominera Lloyd Austin till ny försvarsminister, enligt samstämmiga uppgifter i amerikanska medier.
Den 67-årige Austin är en numera pensionerad general. Han var högste militärt ansvarig för USA:s trupper i Mellanöstern under Barack Obamas presidentskap och tjänstgjorde som högste chef för USA:s centralkommando under tre år.
Om Austin godkänns av senaten blir han USA:s förste svarta försvarsminister.

Lloyd James Austin III (born August 8, 1953) is an American retired four-star general of the United States Army who served as the 12th commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM). Austin was the first Black commander to head the organization and retired from the armed services in 2016.Before CENTCOM, Austin served as the 33rd vice chief of staff of the United States Army from January 31, 2012, to March 8, 2016. He was also the last commanding general of United States Forces – Iraq, Operation New Dawn, which ended on December 18, 2011, and then Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army. Austin retired from the Army in April 2016.
On December 7, 2020, it was reported that Austin would be nominated to serve as the United States Secretary of Defense in the Biden administration.
