Israel är det judiska folkets land – och ingen annans. Det säger premiärministern Benjamin Netanyahu inför valet den 9 april.
Netanyahu gjorde uttalandet på Instagram när han fick en fråga om den kontroversiella lag som röstades igenom förra året och som slog fast att Israel är det judiska folkets land.
”Israel är inte ett land för alla sina medborgare (...) Enligt den nya lagen är Israel nationalstaten för det judiska folket – enbart”, skrev han enligt flera medier.
Premiärministern slog fast att arabiska medborgare har samma rättigheter som de judiska, och hävdade att hans parti Likud gjort mycket för de arabiska medborgarna under sin tid vid makten.

Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People (Hebrew: חוק יסוד: ישראל - מדינת הלאום של העם היהודי), informally known as the Nation-State Bill or the Nationality Bill, is an Israeli Basic Law which specifies the nature of the State of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. The Law was adopted by the Knesset, with 62 in favor, 55 against, and two abstentions, on 19 July 2018 (7th Av, 5778). The Law is largely symbolic and declarative. It was met with sharp criticism internationally, including from several prominent Jewish-American organizations.In January 2019, the Supreme Court announced that challenges to the constitutionality of the Law will be heard by an 11-justice panel. The Court will decide if the Law, in whole or in part, violates Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty. Additionally, this will be the first time it addresses the question of whether it has the authority to strike down (part of) another Basic Law on such basis.
