Socialstyrelsen: Brittisk variant 60 procent farligare
Alfavarianten av coronaviruset, den som tidigare kallades för den brittiska varianten, har helt tagit över smittspridningen i Sverige. Enligt Socialstyrelsen finns det nu belägg för att varianten är cirka 60 procent farligare jämfört med ursprungsvarianten, rapporterar TT.
Socialstyrelsen grundar slutsatserna på två undersökningar där man har sett att de som drabbats av alfavarianten i högre grad behövde sjukhusvård.
Både Pfizers och Astra Zenecas vaccin mot covid-19 är effektiva mot de varianter som väckt störst oro just nu, skriver TT och hänvisar till en studie från Public Health England. TT skriver att vaccinen fungerar mot både alfa- och deltavarianten, som tidigare kallades den indiska varianten.

Public Health England (PHE) is an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom which began operating on 1 April 2013 to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.
