Peeple is an iOS app released on Monday March 7, 2016 that allows people to recommend and be recommended in the following 3 categories: Professional, Personal, and Dating. The app allows you to safely manage your online reputation while making better decisions about the people around you. The company was founded in April 2014 by US based Nicole McCullough and Canadian based CEO, Julia Cordray. [1] The company's plans for their app were announced in September 2015, and received widespread criticism over concerns of bullying and harassment.[2] By late October, the app had promised 4 major changes, "opt-in", so that people could only be recommended if they had registered with the service.[3] Users have full control over what goes live on their profile,[3] with recommendations never becoming visible without the user's permission.[4] You can also deactivate your account. There is no longer a 5 star rating system but instead a Peeple Number which is just the total number of recommendations you receive in each category. If you are not single you can go into your settings and opt out of the Dating section. Some of the app's features include: It’s free! Peeple Number: your number is a total of the recommendations you receive. Reputation Management: it’s a single online space to safely manage your online reputation. Asset Protection: protect your children, money, house, pets, and assets by having more information about the people you interact with. Nearby Feature: use the nearby tab to see everyone nearby within a 10 mile radius for better networking and date opportunities. Search: look up anyone based on name, location, interests and key words Chat: connect and talk to anyone in the app using our chat feature Security: Peeple employs a mandatory double-authentication process. Peeple ensures your identity is verified with an integrated Facebook login and a verification PIN sent to your mobile device. You can block and report users at any time. Peeple mentions a release of an Android App in 2016. It also has a new feature coming out in April 2016 called the Truth License which allows users to upgrade the app to see all the recommendations written.
