Kurdiska styrkor tar ökänd militärflygplats från IS
Kurdisk-arabiska SDF, som stöds av USA i kampen mot terrorgruppen IS, uppger att man har tagit kontroll över militärflygplatsen i den strategiskt vikiga staden Tabqa, 45 kilometer väster om Raqqa i norra Syrien.
IS övertog kontroll över basen från syriska regeringen i augusti 2014 och utförde då en av sina värsta massakrer utfördes när man mördade uppemot 200 regeringssoldater.

The Battle of Al-Tabqa airbase refers to a series of clashes between the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Syrian Arab Army in August 2014, during the Syrian Civil War. Al-Tabqa was the last bastion for Syrian military forces in Raqqa province, which at the end of the battle came fully under the control of the ISIL.

The Battle of Tabqa (2017) is an operation as part of the Raqqa offensive (2016–present), dubbed Operation Wrath of Euphrates, of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) taking place around Tabqa Dam and in the countryside of Al-Thawrah. The goal of the operation is for the SDF to capture the Tabqa Dam, Al-Thawrah city, Al-Tabqa Airbase, and the surrounding countryside from ISIL.
