Nyupptäckt planet ultrahet – tros vara 3 200 grader varm
Rymdsonden Cheops har hittat sin första planet: WASP-189b, meddelar Europeiska rymdstyrelsen, ESA. Den ligger i solsystemet Libra, drygt 322 ljusår från vårt solsystem.
Gasplaneten är en så kallad ultrahet jupiter och liknar vår Jupiter. Den är dock betydligt varmare eftersom WASP-189b rör sig nära sin stjärna och temperaturen beräknas ligga på 3 200 grader Celsius.
– Det är en av de mest extrema planeterna vi känner till, säger forskaren Monika Lendl enligt AFP.

WASP-189b (also known as WASP-189 b, HD 133112b and HD 133112 b) is an extrasolar planet that has an orbital period around its host star, WASP-189 (HD 133112), of less than three days, and is about 322 light-years away in the Libra constellation.In 2020, astronomers used CHEOPS to observe WASP-189b. Based on a passage behind its host star (occultation) the planet's brightness could be measured and the temperature was estimated to be 3,200 °C (5,790 °F; 3,470 K) degrees. Based on a passage in front of its host star (transit) the radius is 1.6 times the radius of Jupiter. The light curve during the transit revealed that the star itself is larger and cooler at its equator than at the poles, making the poles of the star appear brighter. Adding to this asymmetry is the fact that the orbit of WASP-189b is highly inclined; it passes close to the star's poles.
