Bowling Green massacre
Wikipedia (en)
The Bowling Green massacre is a fictional incident referred to by Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway. Conway cited the "massacre" in a February 2, 2017, interview on the television news program Hardball with Chris Matthews as justification for a travel and immigration ban enacted by United States President Donald Trump. The "massacre" was described by Conway as an attack that occurred within the United States by terrorists who pretended to be refugees. Conway said: I bet, there was very little coverage‍—‌I bet it's brand new information to people that President Obama had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized‍—‌and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre. I mean, most people don't know that because it didn't get covered. The next morning, Conway said she misspoke and that she meant to use the term "Bowling Green terrorists" instead referring to a real incident involving two Iraqi men that entered the country as refugees who were arrested and later convicted on charges related to terrorism in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 2011. As a direct response to their arrests, the Obama administration re-vetted 58,000 refugees already in the country, imposed vetting on 25,000 other Iraqi citizens still in Iraq and significantly tightened the processing of Iraqi visa/refugee applications for six months.
