Hjälporganisation kräver att gräns till Syrien öppnas
Hjälporganisationen The International Rescue Committee (IRC) uppmanar FN att öppna gränsen till nordöstra Syrien, rapporterar AFP. De vill kunna komma in i området med medicinska förnödenheter för att hjälpa dem som drabbats av covid-19.
Efter press från Ryssland stängde FN:s säkerhetstråd gränsen till det kurdkontrollerade området som gränsar till Irak i januari. Syriens regering som stöttas av Ryssland ser bistånd och förnödenheter som distribueras utan deras tillstånd som ett brott mot landets suveränitet.
Enligt de kurdiska myndigheterna har 478 smittats och 28 personer har dött av covid-19 i området, men IRC tror att mörkertalet är stort.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian aid, relief, and development nongovernmental organization. Founded in 1933 as the International Relief Association, at the request of Albert Einstein, and changing its name in 1942 after amalgamating with the similar Emergency Rescue Committee, the IRC provides emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution, or natural disaster.
