I Mexiko kräver flera politiker och konservativa aktivister att tv-serier som handlar om droghandel omedelbart slutar att sändas. Enligt aktivisterna glorifierar serier som ”Lord of the skies” om Juárez-kartellens grundare Amado Carillo Fuentes och ”Queen of the south” om en fiktiv kvinnlig kartelledare drogrelaterad kriminalitet.
Ordföranden för radio-, tv- och biografkommissionerna i senaten säger i ett uttalande att tv-kanaler inte borde tillåtas ”marknadsföra droghandel och omgärdande aktivteter som en inspirerande livsstil”.

Queen of the South is an American television drama series. Its 13-episode first season premiered June 23, 2016, on USA Network. The series is an adaptation of the successful telenovela La Reina del Sur on sister network Telemundo and the book of the same name by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. On September 6, 2016, USA Network renewed the series for a second season.

Amado Carrillo (December 17, 1956 – July 3, 1997) was a Mexican drug lord who seized control of the Juárez Cartel after assassinating his boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. Amado Carrillo became known as "El Señor de Los Cielos" (Lord of the Skies) because of the large fleet of jets he used to transport drugs. He was also known for laundering money via Colombia to finance his large fleet of airplanes. He is regarded as one of the wealthiest criminals in history, with an estimated net-worth of over US $25 billion.
He died in July 1997 in a Mexican hospital after undergoing extensive plastic surgery to change his appearance. In his final days Carrillo was being tracked by Mexican and U.S. authorities.
