András Baka vald till ny president i Ungern
Ungerns parlament har valt András Baka, tidigare chefsdomare i högsta domstolen, till ny president. Det rapporterar Reuters.
73-årige Baka var domare i Europadomstolen i 17 år och utsågs 2009 till att leda HD. Tre år senare sparkades han efter att ha kritiserat Orbánregeringen.
Det styrande partiet Tisza erbjöd först presidentrollen till Judit Polgár, den främsta kvinnliga schackspelaren genom tiderna, men hon tackade nej.
Den ungerska presidentrollen är främst ceremoniell.

András Bálint Baka (born 11 December 1952) is a Hungarian jurist and politician. From 2009 to 2011, he served as president of the Supreme Court. From 1990 to 1991, he was a member of the National Assembly. From 1989 to 1990, he served as president of the Confederation of Unions of Professionals. From 1988 to 1990, he served as president of the Trade Union of Scientific and Innovation Workers. On 8 August 2026, the governing Tisza Party nominated Baka to be elected by parliament as the new president of Hungary. With Tisza Party holding a supermajority in the legislature, his appointment is expected to succeed without obstacle.
