”EU ska se till att britterna inte tjänar på brexit”
Belgiens tidigare premiärminister och EU-parlamentarikern Guy Verhofstadt sa på onsdagen under ett tal i Washington att det är viktigt för EU att Storbritannien inte får en bättre position utanför unionen, än inom den.
– Storbritanniens premiärminister har tillkännagett en mycket radikal brexitplan därför att hon inser att EU aldrig kommer att acceptera en situation där ett lands status utanför unionen skulle vara mer förmånlig än att vara medlem av EU, säger Verhofstadt, skriver Bloomberg.

Guy Maurice Marie Louise Verhofstadt (Dutch: [ˈɣiː vərˈɦɔfstɑt]; born 11 April 1953) is a Belgian politician, who served as the 47th Prime Minister of Belgium from 1999 to 2008. Defeating the Socialists and Christian Democrats in the aftermath of the Agusta scandal and Dioxin Affair, he was the first liberal Prime Minister in Belgium since 1884.
Since 2009 he has served as a Member of the European Parliament where he is the leader of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and founded the inter-parliamentarian federalist Spinelli Group. He was the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party nominee for President of the European Commission in the 2014 European Parliament election.
