Cruz mötte Taiwans president i Texas
Texassenatorn Ted Cruz träffade under söndagen Taiwans president Tsai Ing-wen i Houston, rapporterar flera medier. Detta bara en dryg månad efter att hans tidigare rival Donald Trump orsakat en diplomatisk schism genom att tala med Ing-wen i telefon.
Enligt Cruz har det kinesiska konsulatet i USA varnat flera kongressledamöter för att träffa Ing-wen under hennes besök i landet.
– Kina måste förstå att i USA är det vi själva som bestämmer vilka vi träffar. Vi kommer fortsätta att träffa vem vi vill, inklusive representanter från Taiwan, säger Cruz i ett uttalande enligt The Hill.
