Sydkoreas krisande varvsindustri får statsstöd

Sydkoreas finansminister lovar att ge landets krisdrabbade varvsindustri stöd efter kollapsen för rederijätten Hanjin, rapporterar Reuters. Till 2020 ha regeringen gå in och stötta upp 250 ordrar. Staten ska också hjälpa sydkoreanska rederier att köpa nya skepp genom ett offentligt finansieringsstöd på motsvarande 5,67 miljarder dollar Än så länge har 20 000 jobb försvunnit från de tre största arbetsgivarna inom den koreanska varvsindustrin och till årsskiftet kan siffran har stigit till 40 000.

Samsung Heavy Industries or SHI (Korean: 삼성중공업) is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world and one of the "Big Three" shipbuilders of South Korea (including Hyundai and Daewoo). A core subsidiary of the Samsung Group, South Korea's largest conglomerate, SHI's main focus is on constructing ships, offshore floaters, gantry cranes, digital devices for ships, and other construction and engineering concerns. SHI operates manufacturing facilities at home and abroad, including ship block fabrication factories in Ningbo and Rongcheng, China. The Geoje Shipyard in particular, SHI's largest shipyard in South Korea, boasts the highest dock turnover rate in the world. The largest of the three docks, Dock No. 3, is 640 meters long, 97.5 meters wide, and 13 meters deep. Mostly ultra-large ships are built at this dock, having the world's highest production efficiency with yearly dock turnover rate of 10 and the launch of 30 ships per year. SHI specializes in the building of high added-value and special purpose vessels, including LNG carriers, off-shore related vessels, oil drilling ships, FPSO/FSO's, ultra Large container ships and Arctic shuttle tankers. In recent times SHI has concentrated on LNG tankers and drillships.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) (Korean: 대우조선해양) is the fourth largest shipbuilder in the world and one of the "Big Three" shipbuilders of South Korea (including Hyundai and Samsung). On 21 February 2011, the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group (Maersk) ordered 10 large container ships from DSME, each with a capacity of 18,000 containers, surpassing the current record holder; the Mærsk E-class at 15,200 containers. The contract is worth $1.9bn. The first is to be delivered in 2014. In June 2011, Maersk ordered ten more, for another $1.9bn. The new class is called the Triple E class. On December 20, 2011 Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering won the largest single defense contract by a Korean firm; valued at $1.07 billion to build three Indonesian submarines. It also would mark the first exports of submarines from South Korea. On 22 February 2012, a £452 million order was placed with DSME for four 37,000 tonne double hulled 'MARS' fast fleet tankers by Britain's Ministry of Defence for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The ships will enter service in 2016. The South Korean Board of Audit and Inspection found 1.5 trillion won (approximately US$1.27 billion) of accounting fraud in DSME's books on 15 June 2016.
