EU: Lag krävs för att stärka europeiska solidariteten
Den cypriotiske EU-kommissionären Christos Stylianides vill stärka unionens civilskydd ytterligare, skriver han på DN Debatt. Detta med anledning av alla härjande skogsbränder både utomlands och i Sverige.
Genom förslaget ”rescEU” vill Stylianides att EU ska äga, hyra eller leasa utrustning som ska användas vid kriser och katastrofer, i stället för dagens system som innebär att hjälpen består av frivilliga insatser från medlemsländerna.
”Jag menar att resurserna ska finnas decentraliserade, i högriskområden där de snabbt kan tas i bruk”, skriver han.

Christos Stylianides (Χρήστος Στυλιανίδης in Greek, born June 26, 1958) is a Cypriot politician who is the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management since November 1, 2014. On October 24th, 2014 he was appointed as the European Union's Ebola Coordinator by the European Council. He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in the May 2014 European elections where he served until October 31, 2014.
He previously served as Government Spokesperson (2013-2014 and 1998-1999) and was member of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus from 2006 to 2013. As a MEP, served as member of the Committee on Budgets and substitute Member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. He was also a member of the Delegation for relations with the USA and Substitute Member of the Delegation for relations with Israel.
