Kreml gratulerar Muratov till fredspriset: ”Han är modig”

Kreml gratulerar ryske journalisten och pressfrihetskämpen Dmitrij Muratov till fredspriset.

– Vi gratulerar honom. Han är talangfull. Han är modig, säger Dmitrij Peskov, talesperson för president Vladimir Putin, enligt nyhetsbyråerna AFP och Reuters.

Muratov är chefredaktör för Novaya Gazeta, som beskrivs som Rysslands mest fristående tidning. Han tilldelas Nobels fredpris tillsammans med filippinska journalisten Maria Ressa.

Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov (Russian: Дмитрий Андреевич Муратов, born 30 October 1961) is a Russian journalist, editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta. He edited the newspaper between 1995 and 2017. Novaya Gazeta has been called "the only truly critical newspaper with national influence in Russia today" by the Committee to Protect Journalists. The journal is known for its thorough reporting on sensitive topics such as governmental corruption and human rights violations.In 2007, he won an International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists. The award is given to journalists who show courage in defending press freedom in the face of attacks, threats or imprisonment.On January 18, 2010, he received the Legion of Honor order, France's highest decoration, in the degree of Chevalier (Knight). On May 29, 2010 he received for the Novaya Gazeta the Four Freedoms Award for Freedom of Speech in Middelburg, the Netherlands. On October 8, 2021 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Maria Ressa.
